Beyond Stigma

Starting Thursday March 5th until Wednesday March 11th, 2015 at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art.

Beyond Stigma is a multi-media series of work through which Gies explores the complex world of addiction. Her work is intended to engage with the audience through the use of relatable images that hover between the perspectives of the addict and those close to them. Her paintings, prints, and installation combined with video contemplate the many facets of addiction by presenting alternative interpretations to existing socially constructed representations. Using the characteristics of the media to create a somber atmosphere, Gies establishes a space that encourages deep contemplation.

An opening reception will be held Saturday March 7th from 7PM - 10PM – Food and wine will be provided
