Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art is situated on Treaty Two territory, the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Anishininew, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline and homeland of the Red River Métis.
The gallery is located in the Jeff Umphrey Centre on Brandon University campus, and exhibitions and public events welcome the community, free of charge to experience exciting and innovative programming that promotes the understanding and discussion of contemporary art and ideas.
Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art was founded in 2006 by Professor Emerita Colleen Cutschall, a celebrated Lakota Oglala-Sicunga artist, who also founded the Department of Aboriginal and Visual Arts, now known as IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art.
Our mission is to lead the conversation on contemporary art boldly, to foster relationships built on demonstrated respect through actions and initiatives that support both emerging and professional artists and art practices, and to prioritise equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonisation in all of our programming.
Our research-creation mandate is realized through art exhibitions by both emerging student artists and professional artists, as well as performances, artist talks, workshops, publications, collaborations and socially engaged programming.
